I am attempting to write a series of Gleaner Lessons based on Psalms. Here is my first attempt for Psalm One. I made some really cute worksheets with great cartoon tree people, scripture memory pages, and a coloring page (7 pages total) but I can't post them all on the blog. If you want the handouts with the lesson, I'll email them to you.

PSALM 1:1-6
What does a Tree need to Grow?
Photosynthesis is the process where plants get their food from sunlight, directly from light energy, for example the Sun.
LIGHT SOURCE:
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
WATER SOURCE:
John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
NOURISHMENT: NUTRIENTS & MINERALS
Nutrients: A nutrient is food or chemicals that an organism needs to live and grow
1Timothy 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Minerals: A solid substance, like a rock. Salt is a mineral.
1Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
DEEP ROOTS:
Colossians 2:6, 7 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Ephesians 3:17-19 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
SIGNS THAT A TREE IS DYING:
One sure sign is a lack of leaves or a reduction in the number of leaves produced on all or part of the tree. Other signs of a sick tree include the bark becoming brittle and falling off the tree, limbs dying and falling off or the truck becoming spongy or brittle. Sooty Canker Disease is a tree disease that causes damage to trees in dry climates. This disease affects the bark, particularly on the branches of a tree, though it can affect the trunk of a tree as well.
SOOTY CANKER DISEASE:
The symptoms of Sooty Canker Disease are:
Wilting of leaves, more dramatically during dry or windy weather
Small & brown leaves
Early cankers (wounds) will be continually moist, brown areas
Bark cracks or falls away from the tree, which normally reveals the later black cankers
Later cankers on the branches will look like soot or as if someone has set fire to small parts of the tree.
WHAT TO DO FOR A SICK TREE?
The best thing you can do is call a tree doctor. These are people who specialize in diagnosing tree diseases and can help a sick tree get better.
HOW TO AVOID SPIRITUAL SOOTY CANKER DISEASE?
1. CALL ON JESUS, THE GREAT PHYSICIAN: Luke 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
2. STUDY THE BIBLE & DON’T LISTEN TO THE UNGODLY: 2Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
3. ATTEND CHURCH: Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Eph 4:13, 14 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
WHAT HAPPENS IF A TREE WILL NOT BE SAVED?
Luke 13:6-9 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
John 15:5-8 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Mat 15:13
GROWING IN CHRIST:
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:17,18

Sister Tammy I would love to have the children's lesson material. I do children's church and I am always looking for new ideas. My e-mail is pianoplayer2690@sbcglobal.net
On it's way! I'm putting the finishing touches on Psalm Two, I'll send it when I'm done also.
