While we were at Cracker Barrell this afternoon, the tornado sirens went off and we were told by people with Blackberries that a funnel cloud was sighted about 30 miles away. Which is at the end of the Appalachian mountain chain and usually the storm either turns North or South and follows either valley.
(We live on the ridge of the chain...which to all ya'll westerners and VA people would call a large ant hill, but this flatland TX gal calls a small mountain. :)
I told Mike, if that tornado comes here, we will shove this table against the wall and climb under it....considering that Cracker Barrell walls and ceilings are covered with ice picks, saws, pumps, bicycles, axes, etc. NOT a good place for a toronado!!
Half way through our meal, the waitresses started stirring and finally came to our table and said that a tornado touched down on Eastern Valley road and we could follow this man to the kitchen, next to the coolers if we wished. Yep, we went to the kitchen. Mike walked over and told the other church people who had arrived much earlier than we had and were almost finished and then joined me.
The other church people were heading back to the kitchen too and they called their mom to see what James Spann was saying on T.V. (our famous weatherman...when he speaks..you listen) Ole James said it had already gone south of us, so since the kitchen wasn't mandatory (not everyone went back there) they went on ahead and left.
After a little while we were sent back to our tables and fortunately our food was still warm and we finished eating.
Other church members at Olive Garden 12 miles away spent some time in their kitchen, while others at the Chinese restaurant wasn't even alerted. Watch out for those chinese!
We drove down the road, the tornado was supposed to have touched down, but didn't see damage...if there was any it was much further down where we didn't go.
Ya'll can say a prayer for me.. half of my right hand (forefinger/thumb and palm) went numb and tingly in church. I was prayed for, but it hasn't let up. I have had an occasional shooting pain in my right arm (seems like in the bone) for the past two days.

That doesn't sound like a very relaxing lunch! My sister-in-law was eating at a Cracker Barrel in Oklahoma City several years ago when the wait staff led the diners to the kitchen. When they emerged from the kitchen there was nothing left--the rest of the restaurant was GONE! Brenda had trouble locating her vehicle under all the debris. I'm glad your restaurant and even your lunch survived.
I'll be praying for your hand.
Wow! Hopefully, NO-ONE remained in the dining room that time! You know....food just ain't that important.
We drove down past as Sis. Beth's house and didn't see any damage. If the funnel touched down at all, it must have been further down the road or have been in a field or wooded area, away from houses/roads.
My chiropractor said my right shoulder was "off" causing the numbness in my hand. My right shoulder is still pretty tight from the accident. He put me back in place.
