SHIELD OF FAITH:Ephesians 6: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
· Battle shield was door shaped and completely covered the soldier.
· Thick animal hide which was about six layers thick and woven together, very tough and durable.
· Required oiling every day so it would not crack under pressure or fall apart.
And so it is with our faith. It requires daily anointings of the Holy Spirit so we don't crack of fall apart under pressure.
· The shield had to be saturated in water so it could extinguish the fiery arrows of the enemy.
We must saturate our faith in the "water of the Word." The enemy of that day had many types of arrows, but the fiery ones were the worst. They contained combustible fluids that burst into flames upon impact. Kind of like a bomb. The soldiers were able to use the watered shield to extinguish the arrows before they burst into flames. The oiled shield caused the arrows to slip off or richote back to the enemy.
This is why it is important to live our lives in the presence of God and giving His Word top place in our daily schedule. We must keep our shields of Faith in good shape so we can extinguish those darts.
What about corporate faith. One shield is not large enough to take on an entire enemy.
When threatened by mass opposition, the Roman soldiers would walk very close to one another in a long line side by side. They had hinges on the sides of their shields and they would fasten them all together to form a massive wall of protection that allowed them to march right up to their enemy. (yes, this makes me want to shout around the room now too :)
This is why we “ASSEMBLE OURSELVES TOGETHER” AS THE BODY OF CHRIST, THE BRIDE OF CHRIST. The strong in Faith stand guard, while the younger or weaker are protected within the fold.
THE CHURCH OF GOD IS THE ARK OF SAFETY, THE SAFE SHEEP FOLD, THE APPLE OF GOD’S EYE.
ONE LAST THING PAUL TELLS THE CHURCH OF GOD TO DO:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

I like that word...perseverance.
ANOTHER good post! God's Word gives such comfort! And that word "perseverance" stands out to me, too, just like Kasey mentioned. There's a lot to that word! AND supplication. Supplication=To make a humble, earnest petition; beg. We've got to persevere in our humble, earnest petitions.
Guess what! I'm getting to go to IYC (if everything works out okay).
